The Sacrifice of leaving Aztlan


                The closest translation to the word sacrifice in the nahuatl language 
                is gift and pleasure. This should give you a better picture of 
                what our ancient civilizations were all about. Understanding the 
                great difference of concepts between the occidental culture and 
                the Native American will help feel the clash of these philosophies. 
                The effects have been catastrophic because even the same words 
                are understood differently by each.
The chronicles did not help much, these are filled with colorful 
                descriptions on how human sacrifices were made. Some gory stories 
                even describe how the heart of the victim, still pumping, was 
                shown to the hungry crowds. Tales that would rival with any Halloween 
                story of modern times. Blinded fanatics that would offer themselves 
                to what could only be described by the priests as "demons", 
                evil beings. The holy men themselves validated their existence, 
                if only to show the power of their God. Put to logic, these explanations 
                and descriptions truly don't even make much sense!, but, because 
                it was written in an old peace of paper occidentals give it enormous 
                value. Again, the cultural differences are huge! We give value 
                to oral tradition where as occidentals consider this mere gossip. 
              
¿Why is it that sacrifice is much more to us? Ancient 
                Aztecs, (and even before them) developed an understanding, a relationship 
                with their environment that was unequal. Their sacrifice, as occidentals 
                see it, is something ugly, fearful, filled with gore and superstition. 
                I can assure you though, that our way of thinking is in many aspects 
                much more efficient and true to life.
There is plenty of proof that ancient Aztecs revered life and 
                anything that was alive, even corn was treated as a person of 
                high importance, if this is true, then, what is this obsession
